MICPA Speaker Guidelines

Thank you for agreeing to speak at an upcoming MICPA program. We know that preparing for a presentation takes considerable time and thought. We have developed guidelines to help us both succeed in achieving our common goal of providing CPAs with the best possible professional education.

Presentation Material Guidelines

  • Due Date: Your materials are due approximately two weeks prior to the program to allow sufficient time for the MICPA to review, compile, upload and print them for attendees
  • Copyrighted materials: It is your responsibility to obtain permission to use any copyrighted materials within your presentation

PowerPoint Tips

  • Use dark, easy to read fonts sized at least 24 points on a light background
  • If you choose to insert an article in a slide please provide the document so we can include a page size version


  • Materials for MICPA programs are provided electronically to attendees. Your materials are converted into PDF format before being uploaded. Participants are also able to purchase printed copies of the materials for an additional fee
  • Materials are posted in a password-protected area of the website, which is only accessible by registrants of the event
  • Registrants can access the materials approximately 48 hours prior to the event and they’re available until one week after the program
  • Speakers receive the electronic materials via a Dropbox link sent one week prior to the program

Audio/Visual Guidelines

  • Room setup: Rooms are typically equipped with a speaker table with chairs, podium, a wireless lavaliere microphone, LCD projector and setup for your PowerPoint presentation
  • Please contact your program coordinator to request additional equipment

Hotel & Travel Information

Hotel: If you require overnight accommodations for the night before the program, please confirm with your program coordinator. MICPA will make your hotel reservation for late arrival and cover room & tax only.

Flight: If applicable, please make your coach airline reservations 60 days prior to the program to secure cost-effective travel. Any airfare of $600 or more must be approved by MICPA before reserving to ensure full reimbursement.

Ground Transportation: If you are flying in, the MICPA will provide ground transportation for you from the airport to the hotel/program facility and back. If you prefer to rent a car (economy class), take a cab, Lyft or Uber, please let your program coordinator know and the MICPA will cover the cost.

​Dress Code: ​When speaking, we ask you dress business casual. Business attire is also always welcome.

Requests for expense reimbursements must be submitted with detailed receipts within 30 business days of the program, to guarantee reimbursement.

Speaker Credit Hours

Speakers who wish to receive CPE credit for presenting must inform MICPA. The MICPA will triple the credit for first time presentations.

Michigan State Board of Accountancy Rule 217: Each hour of classroom work as a teacher, instructor, speaker, or lecturer at an educational institution, or each hour spent conducting a group program under R 338.5216 as a teacher, instructor, lecturer, speaker, or seminar discussion leader, equals 3 continuing education hours for the initial session of the course or program taught. The licensee shall not be granted additional credit for subsequent repetitious sessions during the same continuing education period. The credit shall not exceed 50% of the minimum qualifying hours in any continuing education period.

If you are claiming credit in a state other than Michigan, please check with the appropriate State Board of Accountancy for credit hour guidelines.
