Speaker's Bureau

Speaker's Bureau

The MICPA is often asked by schools and community groups to speak about accounting topics and financial literacy. The MICPA Speakers Bureau is a consortium of MICPA members who offer their knowledge and expertise to these groups in order to further the cause of accounting education.

As a volunteer you will be given the opportunity to speak about the accounting profession, financial literacy, the role of a CPA and many other accounting- and finance-related subjects. Share your knowledge with students and members of the community to help strengthen the future of the profession!

Do I Qualify to be a Speaker?

There are no requirements as to how many speaking engagements a volunteer must complete during the school year and no training sessions are required to participate in this program.

What Will Speaking Entail?

Speaker's Bureau volunteers will have the opportunity to speak to students, reporters and civic groups about the profession. The student segment is by far the most common request, with the MICPA reaching out to large numbers of elementary, junior high, high school and college students through its volunteer speakers.

To support you in your speaking engagement, the MICPA provides volunteers with a 'Speakers Toolkit'. The Toolkit outlines 15-30, and 45-minute presentations discussing the profession and addressing potential questions about careers in accounting. In addition to the toolkit, volunteers are supplied with supplementary handouts and presentation tips. Please contact us with the form on this page if you'd like to request copies of any of these materials.

What is the Time Commitment of a Speaker?

You can volunteer to participate in the Speakers Bureau at any time throughout the year. As requests for speakers are made by schools and community organizations in your area, we will contact you to find out if you are available to do the engagement. Speakers Bureau volunteers are primarily called on during the academic year, from September to June. A typical engagement will require that a speaker attend one class session to address a classroom of students.
