What to Say After “Hello”
If you get a call from someone claiming to be with the IRS: beware. Michigan is one of the top states for identity theft. Following on the heels of a warning earlier this month from Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette, another government agency says the increasing number of people getting the fraudulent calls is alarming. The fact is the IRS will never contact you directly through email or with a phone call. It will usually start with a letter.

 

Thinking Beyond Tuition
Although they’re a big one, tuition and fees are not the only factor affecting college affordability. The Government Accountability Office has identified some other financial issues to consider as you calculate the costs of that college diploma:

Considering Doctorate? Apply Now for Minority AICPA Fellowship
To increase the number of minority CPAs in college and university classrooms, the AICPA Fellowship for Minority Doctoral Students awards annual fellowships of $12,000 to full-time minority accounting scholars who demonstrate significant potential to become accounting educators. Fellows who continue to meet eligibility requirements may renew their award for an additional four years. Online applications are due May 15, 2015.

Taking the Back Roads
The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) released an update of its Mi Drive traffic information app with improved graphics, faster map loading, new map layer controls (including a reset button), and a filter to sort construction searches by county and route. Go to iTunes or Google Play and search for MDOT or Mi Drive.
