MICPA Members Provide Tax Prep Assistance in Detroit
Members of the MICPA are helping low-income families in Detroit uncover opportunities like the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) to maximize their tax refunds. In partnership with the Accounting Aid Society, MICPA member volunteers provided tax preparation assistance at Focus: HOPE on Jan. 28 (which happened to be the day after National EITC Awareness Day). Additional members will volunteer at Focus: HOPE on Feb. 4.

“Low-income families and individuals often miss out on many of the tax credits they are entitled to receive,” said Lorena Bencsik of Robert Half, chair of the MICPA Communications Task Force. “This program helps clients navigate their tax rights and responsibilities and provide for their families.”

The Accounting Aid Society's program returns more than $6 million in tax refunds and credits annually. Accounting Aid will sponsor additional sites in Detroit and Livingston, Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties.
