It’s no secret that getting on the road to retirement is difficult for many Americans, which is why the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants is offering a conference so CPAs can better prepare to assist their clients in tackling the issue.

The Road to Retirement is scheduled for Nov. 30 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Michigan State University Management Education Center, 811 W. Square Lake Road, Troy. The conference will cover such topics as estate and trust planning, Social Security and Medicare.

“The challenges of new technologies, longevity and uncertain market conditions make retirement planning more important than ever to financial well-being,” said Leon LaBrecque, managing partner and CEO at LJPR Financial Advisors based in Troy. “We’re making it a priority for CPAs to have all the tools necessary to help clients successfully retire in today’s new world.”

The keynote address will be delivered by LaBrecque. As a CPA and a practicing attorney, LaBrecque is passionate about financial literacy in both his roles at his wealth management firm and with the MICPA. He will discuss the evolving American dream and how it impacts retirement. LaBrecque will address how the concept of retirement for Americans is changing and the need for a new model of retirement planning to allow for our increasing longevity.

Other sessions will include long term care planning, financial planning for the new American blended family and retirement for business owners transitioning away.

Registration is $209 for MICPA members and $359 for non-members and is available by visiting
