New Research Highlights Salary Trends, Hot Skills in Coming Year
The just-released 2015 Salary Guides from Robert Half show that U.S. starting salaries for professional occupations are projected to increase an average of 3.8 percent next year. You’ll be happy to hear that accounting and finance can expect starting salaries to rise an average of 3.5 percent, according to the research. Read more

MAF Scholarship Application Coming Soon
The Michigan Accountancy Foundation has awarded more than $1 million in scholarships to fifth/graduate year accounting students. The application for 2015 scholarships will be on the MAF website in early November. 

Congrats to CMU’s Dr. Robert Bromley
CMU accounting professor Dr. Robert Bromley received the Accounting Teaching Excellence Award at the MICPA’s 2014 annual Awards Dinner on Oct. 3. Dr. Bromley is noted as an expert on accounting systems, internal control and corporate governance. He has developed an effective network of alumni and professionals who share their expertise with his students, bringing real-life experience to the classroom. Congratulations, Dr. Bromley! Students Discovered Great Opportunities at MICPA Career Fair
On Friday, Oct. 3, 2014, 165 students and future CPAs from across the state met in Novi with 21 firms and companies to discuss potential internship and job opportunities at the MICPA’s first-ever Career Fair. Eleven local colleges and universities were also onsite to discuss accounting bachelor programs as well as fifth year/graduate opportunities. “I was very impressed with the students’ enthusiasm and I’m so glad they took advantage of this opportunity to make professional contacts,” said David Johnson, MICPA assistant director of membership and academic affairs. Because the event was so successful, planning for next year is already underway. Stay tuned for details.

The IFRS Foundation has developed an online quiz for students and educators based on the content of IFRS as global standards: a pocket guide. The Quiz contains 220 true-false questions. When you take the quiz you will be given 10 randomly selected questions. When you finish the 10 questions, the quiz is instantly graded with correct answers and explanations for the answers shown.
