Nearing the Finish Line: The Race for Student Members is On!
With just a few days remaining until the end of the semester, the MICPA Fall 2014 Student Enrollment Competition shows Wayne State University in the lead with 86 new members. Walsh College is close behind (66) and Western Michigan (30) is in third place. Aquinas (15), Baker (13), Northwood (17), Oakland University (18) and U of M (15) are neck and neck. Students who apply through Friday, Dec. 12 will be included in the final results. Contact Dwight Ragland for details on how to join MICPA for free.

Approaching Your Fifth Year? Apply for MAF Scholarship by Jan. 30
The Michigan Accountancy Foundation (MAF) is accepting applications for the 2015 MAF Fifth/Graduate Year Scholarship. Students can go to ThisWaytoCPA.com/maf to learn more and apply. Paper applications will also be accepted this year ­– contact Dwight Ragland for details. The application, two recommendation letters and transcript(s) must be submitted by Jan. 30, 2015. Since 2003, the Foundation has granted more than $1,000,000 to 294 Michigan accounting students!

Can You Spare a Few Hours? Volunteer to Help Low-income Families With Tax Assistance Program
Here’s a chance to help people who really need it, and at the same time, make some professional connections and gain experience to beef up your resume. The MICPA is seeking volunteers (college accounting students are welcome!) to help prepare tax returns pro bono for low-income families and individuals at Focus: HOPE. MICPA partners with the Accounting Aid Society for this program. Volunteer dates for this year are all on Saturdays – January 31, February 7 and February 14. The MICPA is happy to help you find a speaker for your school’s accounting club, Beta Alpha Psi chapter meeting, or for a classroom presentation.
