Nonprofit Fraud: Lessons

for the mission, nonprofits have a history of poor internal controls and large,
unexpected frauds. We will look at some case studies and lessons learned. We
will also review the GAO’s COVID-19 alert related to risk assessment and fraud
risk assessment during COVID as well as the ACFE’s COVID-19 Fraud benchmarking
study. The lessons learned can help identify and maybe even prevent the next
major nonprofit fraud.
