Following ongoing MICPA advocacy and member feedback, including discussions with the Michigan Department of Treasury (Treasury) and last week's MICPA State and Local Tax Resource Group meeting, Treasury released new guidance and examples of taxpayer notices generated by its new system.
Following ongoing MICPA advocacy and member feedback, including discussions with the Michigan Department of Treasury (Treasury) and last week's MICPA State and Local Tax Resource Group meeting, Treasury released new guidance and examples of taxpayer notices generated by its new system. Recent updates to Notice of Adjustment letters are intended to improve readability and clarify required actions, contact information and appeal options. Revised letters began mailing the week of June 8, though the notice date on the letters is postdated one week to allow for delivery. Treasury indicated additional correspondence reviews and updates will continue throughout the summer. Separately, Treasury announced that processing for 95% of individual income tax returns filed this season is now complete.
